The Kardashians

Okay, I admit – I totally love Keeping Up with the Kardashians. They’re hilarious and super weird and crazy. It’s so different from my family at home, than my friends’ families, etc.

They’re not only different with their family interactions – clearly their lifestyles are very different, they think about different things and were obviously raised differently than most people were/are.

The thing that’s so sad to me is that none of them are famous for being intelligent, ground-breaking, pave-the-way women. They’re famous for being 80% naked, or 100% naked in Kim’s case. They’re famous for being famous. Isn’t that weird? I think that’s so weird.

I just think it’s so sad that we are idolizing these unrealistic, unhealthy standards of beauty and what true satisfaction and success is.
Being successful isn’t wearing Balhmain, driving all black Range Rovers, or taking selfies with Kanye.

To me, being successful is knowing your worth. It’s respecting yourself and others. It’s treating others like they’re worth something. It’s being responsible, taking care of yourself, taking care of those that are important to you. It’s loving people and having people that love you back. It’s about being happy in a realistic way – not a superficial way.
What I mean by superficial is being happy in a way that won’t leave. Instead of pinning your happiness on a boy, grades, makeup, etc. – pin your happiness on something bigger than yourself.

Being beautiful isn’t being perfectly tan, tall, curvy, thin, having long thick voluminous hair, perfectly manicured nails, the best and most expensive clothing.

To me, being beautiful is also about knowing your worth. It’s respecting yourself and others. It’s treating others like they’re worth something. It’s being responsible, taking care of yourself, taking care of those that are important to you. It’s loving people and having people that love you back. It’s about being happy in a realistic way – not a superficial way. Don’t pin your beauty on makeup, compliments, and the size of your clothes.

Beauty, success, and true satisfaction in life is about loving who you are, just for being you. There is NO ONE ELSE LIKE YOU. That is so amazing!! No one else is exactly like you! You are the only one who has that talent, those eyes, that hair. You are the only one who can rock your confidence. No one else does you better than you do. That’s such a cool thought.

Friends, take care of yourselves. Remind yourself that your worth only comes from Jesus and yourself. Don’t envy what the Kardashians have – those things won’t last. Those things don’t show how intelligent, talented, insightful, radical, and unique they are. Those things you see on Instagram are all a front that they’re putting up, only showing you what they want you to see. We don’t get to see the vulnerability behind that screen.

We are all intelligent, talented, insightful, radical, and unique. You just have to own it. Be who YOU are. No one else can do that for you! Besides, why would you want to be anyone else when only you are capable of being you??

Be authentic, be you.

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

1 Peter 3:3-4 NIV

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 14:27 NIV
